Job Description

We are seeking a Manual Machinist for a direct hire position located in the north Dayton area!

Hours are 7am - 3:30. Pay is up to $30 an hour!

 Position requires setting up and operating light to heavy-duty horizontal and vertical turret lathes, engine lathes, and other manual machines. The operator is responsible for the complete setting up of the work pieces and the machining operation and cutting tools. This is Union position after 90 days and position is eligible for monthly increases, apply for more details! 

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTIBILITIES

• Independently setup and run manual machines such as turret lathes and engine lathes.
• Perform turning, facing, boring, drilling and tapping chases threads, machines tapers, and other operations such as shaft straightening.
• Capable of setting up manual machines including selecting the proper cutting tools and setting proper feeds/speeds.
• Capable of reading complex engineering blueprints to understand machining/finishing requirements.
• Use all types of precision measuring instruments and gauges including micrometers, indicators, gage blocks, and verniers to verify dimensions with working drawings.
• Properly repairs, maintains, or constructs jigs and fixtures.
• Grind and sets cutting tool relative to the design and material of the work piece.
• Works to close tolerances, exercises judgment relative to quality and finish of work piece.
• Usually uses hoist to load and unload machine.
• Works in a safe manner at all times and immediately reports any machine or tool malfunction to supervisor in charge. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Three years experience on manual machines such as turret lathe or engine lathe. Horizontal and vertical lathe experience preferred.
• Good knowledge and application of shop mathematics, and capable of reading machining blue prints, sketches, and following verbal instructions.
• Must have own hand tools as required.
• Able to do own setups in varying classes of conventional turret lathe work, engine lathe work, and general machining.
• Works independently under minimal supervision. Self-starter.
• Capable of standing for entire shift, occasional lifting up to 50lbs, frequent lifting up to 20lbs, and frequent loading/unloading of parts into machines, and working in a fast paced environment.
