Job Description

PDSI looking for 2nd or 3rd shift CNC Machinists for our Dayton area partners. These positions require the operator to work with limited supervision as part of a Cell Team and interact with others as required. The cell may operate on three shifts and the staffing may vary by load requirements. The operator will be responsible for set-up and operation of various controlled machines and performance of supplementary operations to produce a completely finished, quality part.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up and runs machines manually and automatically using good machining, quality, and safety practices.
  • Sets tooling to close tolerances, frequently to less than .001.Sets up, makes adjustments, and changes tools in the tool conveyor while the machine is in cycle.

  • Performs all supplementary operations, such as gaging, part loading and unloading, deburring, fixture loading, serializing, etc. during machine cycle as required to provide a finish machined, quality part to assembly.
  • Sets up and uses precision measuring equipment such as .0001 indicators, dial or electronic bore gages, Jo Blocks, inside an outside micrometers, depth mics, verniers, etc.
  • Assists during prove outs, adjusting feeds, speeds, etc. to establish a program, which will run without operator intervention.
  • Should be capable of editing programs and communicating changes to the Programmer.
  • Performs daily weekly, and other scheduled minor preventative maintenance tasks such as filling of lube pots, maintaining coolant supply, grease fittings, run control diagnostics. Performs mechanical and minor electro-mechanical maintenance within the cell.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Is alert and attentive to the machine performance and operation.
  • Communicates with other Shift Operators on machine and tool operations and on scheduling plans to provide smooth cell operation.
  • Communicates with support personnel to offer suggestions for improvements in Tool life, part quality, productivity, communication, cell appearance etc. to better overall effectiveness.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years? experience on production machines including turning, boring, milling operations using carbide tooling.
  • At least 2 years on NC or CNC equipment.
  • The job requires a good knowledge and application of shop math including a familiarity with basic trig.
  • Must have the ability to communicate easily with Supervisors, Programmers, other Shift personnel and others.
  • Must have a practical knowledge of cutting tools.
  • Must be capable of reading blueprints, programs, and sketches.
  • Must be familiar with and be able to use precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be alert, conscientious, and capable of adapting to new concepts in machining.
  • Ability to work independently or self-directed.
  • Physical demands include standing at the machine for up to 8-10 hours per day, frequent lifting up to 10 lbs occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
