Job Description/Essential Functions
Abrades surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and imparts specified finish by performing the functions below, all while advancing our mission of being a forward-thinking, collaborative, and ethical business.
Duties/Responsibilities
" Smooths surfaces and removes oils, shavings, sand, etc. from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.
" Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches customer's requirements.
" Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
" Washes surfaces prior to painting with thinner or kerosene.
" Clean and maintain spraying equipment and spray booth in a clean, operating and safe condition.
" Shovels or pours abrasives such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
" Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
" Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
" Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
" Directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
" Processes parts following blueprints, job traveler, and other written and verbal specifications while meeting routed hours.
" Examines finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
" Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of KBC product.
" Accurately completes operations and quantities.
" Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and six months to one year of related experience and/or training.
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; anything over 50 pounds requires two people, or the use of a lifting device. The ability to climb and work from ladders, operate lifting devices, and move around the shop floor without assistance is required. May also be required to work in confined spaces, crawling in, on, and under equipment. Must be able to tolerate exposure to a typical shop environment; i.e. extreme heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes, and other elements. Must wear safety glasses and steel toed shoes, along with additional PPE as required or needed.
